I have been a little busy recently with work and family so have not had the time to consider my next move.
The time has however given me the chance to further contemplate what I am, or am not, looking for in a partner.
While there is one big decision to face (“do you want to date someone with children?”) there are a couple of addition points decide on
Age
I am no spring chicken. I’m 42. What is an acceptable age range ? What has struck me recently is that while my ego would love to be going out with a 20 something I would actually have nothing to talk about with her.
Her: “What do you think of ?”
Me: “never heard of them”
Now, maybe that is a gross simplification of the discussion topics of the younger generation (god I sound like Michael Winner) but you get my point. Having some level of shared reference is important.
Maybe I am looking for someone who would be able to agree with the following statements
1. Duran Duran were better than wham – although if you want a snog at the end of the disco then. Careless whisper is MUCH better
2. Saturday morning television WAS Swap shop or Alive and kicking (at a push)
3. Snickers are Marathon
4. Organising a Saturday night out involved planning locations and times NOT just phoning when you left home
5. Dial up broadband was awful
6. Carrying 1,000 songs would be very very difficult
7. Oxford Brookes* is NOT a real university
So I think that means my lower age limit would be around 10 years lower – of course the chance of a 30 year old fancying a 42 year old is remote
* nothing against oxford Brookes – I could have chosen 10s of other examples
